Nelson Pinot Noir 2006Te Mānia
Nelson Pinot Noir 2009

Te Mania Pinot Noir is made in an elegant appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from a little cellaring allowing it to develop more complex characters.

Nose:  Lovely lifted nose with red cherry and mocha notes combined with savoury, spicy aromas.

Palate:  Full fruit flavours of red cherries and raspberries.  Savoury, gamey flavours with hints of leather balanced with elegant tannins add complexity to this wine which delivers a long elegant finish.  This wine will continue to develop complexity over the next couple of years.

Vintage:  A range of Pinot Noir clones were hand harvested from 3 different vineyards.  The grapes were crushed and put into open tanks and fermented naturally with wild yeasts.  The fermenting wine and skins were hand plunged for 8-10 days. After ferment the wine was left on skins for 10 to 21 days before being pressed, settled and racked to tank.  The wine was then aged in French and American oak barrels.

Diet: suitable for vegetarian diets

Alcohol: 14%

Acidity: 4.8 g/L

"Warm and inviting on the nose, this Pinot shows lovely fruit intensity with gentle savoury complexity, displaying red/black cherry, spice, mushroom and subtle game characters. The palate is ripe and soothing with silky texture and supple tannins. A lovely medium-bodied Pinot showing layers of appealing flavours.««««½ Stars, 90 points" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"From its enticing ruby hue to a lingering currant-chocolate finish, this Nelson pinot oozes class.  It has a cherry-plum nose and a distinctive plum taste, backed  by berry notes and a hint of spice.  This smooth , nicely  balanced wine was a good match with roast lamb."

- Brian Prebble, The Press

"Palish bright red.  Strawberry, raspberry, spices and sexy earth tones on the nose, plus a whiff of smoky minerality.  Juicy and sappy in the mouth, with lovely spicy lift to the cherry and raspberry fruit.  Finishes with slightly dry tannins and subtle persistence. 89 points”

- Stephen Tanzer's, International Wine Cellar, Sept/Oct '11

"It’s a juicy, generously flavoursome pinot noir with its delicate floral and spicy sweet cherry aromas and accessible price."

- Joelle Thomson

"Slightly herbal, but spicy, savoury and full-flavoured, with good balance and weight.«««½ Stars"

Michael Cooper, Winestate Magazine

"Even, purple hued ruby-red in colour, this has an elegantly proportioned nose with strawberries and red berry fruits, along with nuances of herbs, lifted with some good floral perfumes.  Medium-full bodied at 13.8% alc., the palate has fresh, focussed soft-red fruit flavours, bright and vibrant and quite up-front in expression.  The tannins are soft and supple, allowing immediate drinkability.  Drink this over the next 3-4 years with mild Asian cuisine.  Made from a range of clones from three sites in the Nelson region and fermented with wild yeasts, then aged in French and American oak.  Suitable for vegan consumption.  16.5/20.«««Stars"
